A Review of Resolutions Passed by ASUNM

October 12, 2018 - Jess Newman

#CampusSustainabilityMonth Highlights the resolutions passed by ASUNM to bring attention to student solidarity to face the climate crisis

Over the last few semesters, ASUNM passed three resolutions that were written by UNM LEAF which lay out sustainable goals for UNM. These three resolutions encompass UNM declaring a climate emergency, divesting from fossil fuels, and committing to carbon-neutrality and waste-free practices on campus. Through the unanimous passing of these resolutions, the student body at UNM has provided a clear message to the UNM Board of Regents, UNM Foundation, UNM President Garnett S. Stokes, the UNM Provost James Holloway, and the rest of the UNM Campus to take climate action in order to uphold their promises of investing in the futures of their students. Without working towards these goals of sustainability, UNM is contributing to multiple factors that are worsening our global climate. This is one example of how the student body has shown their support of sustainable actions at UNM.
