Christina Lucas graduated from UNM in 2017 with a BA in Geography and Environmental Studies and a minor in Sustainability Studies. During her studies she completed the Las Huertas Farmer Training program in 2016 organizing a women’s group at Rio Grande Community Farm to connect mothers and children with each other and the soil. In August 2017, Christina joined the STEAM-NM AmeriCorps team as a garden coordinator for the University of New Mexico Lobo Gardens.  This position integrates college courses with outdoor experiential learning in the gardens, creating a pollinator corridor on campus, and outreach to members of the university and greater Albuquerque community. Forging an understanding of agro-ecology, food systems, community, permaculture, and biodiversity is what Christina envisions and hopes to bring to the UNM Lobo Gardens.
