With generous support from the New Mexico Legislature in 2006 and 2007, the UNM Sustainability Studies Program (SSP) launched a new minor degree in Sustainability Studies, among the first of its kind in the United States. We are now supported by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Education Grant, and the New Mexico-based McCune Charitable Foundation.
An alumnus of The University of New Mexico has made a generous gift to the UNM Sustainability Studies program to establish an endowed fund in the name of his beloved late wife. The substantial gift will be used to support the Sustainability Studies Program’s efforts to address our society’s most pressing challenges. Read more about the Rosalind O. Womack ednowment fund here.
UNM SSP is spearheading a sustainability effort throughout Albuquerque - and the state - by engaging and connecting our students with the greater New Mexico community. Our program's goal is to provide opportunities for students to engage in experiential learning, research, and service activities that implement practical solutions for a sustainable future on campus, the community, the state, and the planet. Areas of focus include food, water, shelter, transportation, energy, and healthcare.
We welcome your support as a way of realizing your intentions to transform society at a critical time. Please consider donating your time, formally or informally, in the classroom or in the field. Other resources for scholarships, travel, and supplies enable students to engage in real-world projects that help everyone.
