Environment and Sustainability

Our program works with numerous sustainability-oriented organizations (both for-profit and not-for-profit) in the greater Albuquerque area. Many of our students attend workshops, lectures and tours offered by these organizations, and participate as community volunteers, interns and employees.

Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority - Delivering safe and clean drinking water to Albuquerque, and promoting education and conservation as the most critical component of our long-term water supply strategy

Albuquerque Wildlife Federation - Committed to conservation of New Mexico's wildlife and habitat resources for future generations 

Bernalillo County Extension Office - Providing information and workshops regarding agriculture (Master Gardener Program), horticulture (Master Composter Program), community development and home economics

Bernalillo County Open Space - Protecting and managing land to benefit people, plants and wildlife, and offering resource-based recreation and environmental education (Backyard Farming Series and Master Naturalist Program)

Bioneers - Inspiring a shift to live on Earth in ways that honor the web of life, each other and future generations

City of Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center - Protecting the natural and cultural resources of the City Open Space Division

City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Management - Providing residential and commercial trash collection and disposal, large item disposal, recycling, composting, graffiti removal, convenience centers and neighborhood cleanup support

Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District - Promoting the conservation, improvement and responsible use of natural resources on rural and urban lands in New Mexico

Coalition of Sustainable Communities NM - Increasing climate actions around reducing carbon emissions as well as adapting to climate change statewide and promoting such actions and sustainabilty solutions for local governments and their constituents. 

Environment New Mexico - protecting the places we love, advancing the environmental values we share, and winning real results for our environment

Juntos: Our Air, Our Water - organizing Latino families in Albuquerque to protect air and water from threats of contamination and advocate for clean energy

Native Plant Society of New Mexico - Educating members about native plant identification, ecology, and uses; encouraging preservation of natural habitats; supporting botanical research; and promoting the use of native plants for conservation of water, land, and wildlife

New Mexico Acequia Association - Empowering communities in defending water as a community resource and inspiring people in keeping acequia water flowing to provide families and children with healthy, locally-grown food

New Mexico Recycling Coalition - Providing recycling information to professionals and the general public, and leading New Mexico to value waste as a resource

New Mexico Wilderness Alliance - dedicated to the protection, restoration, and continued enjoyment of New Mexico’s wildlands and wilderness areas

Open Space Alliance - Promoting public awareness and conservation of Open Space lands, and educating the public about the natural, historic, cultural, educational, and recreational aspects of Open Space areas

Quivira Coalition - Building resilience by fostering ecological, economic and social health on western landscapes through education, collaboration, and progressive public and private land stewardship

Rio Grande Nature Center - Preserving and protecting the Rio Grande bosque, educating the public about Rio Grande ecosystems, and fostering positive human interactions with those systems

Sierra Club (Rio Grande Chapter) - prioritizing action on protecting our climate, clean air, clean water, and conservation of wildlife and public lands in New Mexico and West Texas

Soilutions, Inc. - Specializing in composting, foodwaste recycling and permaculture-based landscape design
