City Nature Challenge Albuquerque 2023: Community Science in Your Neighborhood and Beyond

City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international effort to find and document plants and wildlife in cities around the world. CNC Albuquerque focuses on the Middle Rio Grande Valley and includes nature observations made in Sandoval, Bernalillo, and Valencia counties. The Open Space Division is offering a special hike each day of CNC at a different Major Public Open Space public lands property each day of the four-day event.

Description

You’re invited to participate in a guided walk with educators from Open Space Division to explore our local plants and animals at Tingley Beach Open Space. This event is at an ADA and stroller-friendly area for all to enjoy the diverse Rio Grande riparian ecosystem.

Learn about:

  • iNaturalist- an app that makes it easy to identify and share our observations in nature. We’ll help you download and begin to understand all the amazing diversity around us!
  • Local trails in your neighborhood, and enjoy a hike with other nature enthusiasts 
  • Open Space Division programs offered in your city for all ages from early childhood through adult

Program is free, no registration required. Parking is $2 per vehicle. Meet at the northern most parking lot at Tingley Beach, just south of Central Ave. Look for the "City Nature Challenge Albuquerque Event Meets Here" sign at the parking lot trail head. Program takes places rain or shine. Dress in layers appropriate for a short hike on a sandy trail. Wear closed-toed shoes and bring your smartphone with the free iNaturalist app installed on your phone. (Available on both Google Play and the App Store.) We will also have mini-tablets available to use for the event if you do not have a smart phone.
