Backyard Farming Series: Seasons of Growth
November 3, 2018 9:00 AM
Gutierrez-Hubbell House- 6029 Isleta Blvd. SW
Since 2010, Bernalillo County Open Space and its partners have offered a free series of workshops that provides the public with practical experience and knowledge for transforming their backyards into a thriving urban oasis of food, medicine, and wildlife habitat. The guest speakers for this series are all experts in their field who present firsthand knowledge on topics such as irrigation, livestock, insects, gardening, seed saving, and much more. The workshops are held at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House History and Cultural Center.
Learn about permaculture and native techniques for seasonal growing. Gardening offers us a chance to connect to the land, the plants and each other. Growing in a sustainable and self-sufficient way means working with rather than against nature. Permaculture encourages consciously designed landscapes that mimic the patterns and relationships found in the local environment. We will discuss the simplicity and effectiveness of native traditional methods such as the three sisters planting and waffles gardening.
All workshops for the 2018 season are FREE and run from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House, located at 6029 Isleta Blvd SW (3 miles south of Rio Bravo).
