Since 2010, Bernalillo County Open Space and its partners have offered a free series of workshops that provides the public with practical experience and knowledge for transforming their backyards into a thriving urban oasis of food, medicine, and wildlife habitat. The guest speakers for this series are all experts in their field who present firsthand knowledge on topics such as irrigation, livestock, insects, gardening, seed saving, and much more. The workshops are held at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House History and Cultural Center.

Bulbs are like magic. You put them in the ground in the fall and they produce masses of flowers for years to come. Daffodils, tulips, crocus hibiscus - so many choices! Some say the perfect "bulb" is the iris, which actually does not grow from bulbs but from large fleshy roots called rhizomes. There are many choices for size, color, and timing. We will discuss selections, planting and care, and even eating bulbs!
