The UNM Chapter of the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance (UNMWA) is branch of the organization that will be involved in efforts towards environmental conservation of New Mexico wilderness areas. The University of New Mexico Wilderness Alliance is dedicated to the protection, restoration and continued enjoyment of New Mexico’s wilderness areas. The UNMWA will work in partnership with the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance to promote environmental awareness, education, and support for statewide conservation campaigns.

Join us as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act! Our first meeting will be held Wednesday, September 24th, at 5pm in the grassy area south of Mesa Vista Hall.

The Wilderness Act was signed on September 3, 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson.  The Wilderness Act created a system of preservation to "secure for the American people of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness." The year 2014 marked the 50th year anniversary of the establishment of the Wilderness Act.
