Climate Crisis: Breaking Up With Your Bank

September 24, 2019 6:00 PM
Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice 202 Harvard SE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106

Breaking up with Your Bank - Green Investment & Fossil Fuel Divestment Seminar by Sandy Emerson, an expert on environmentally responsible investing, from Fossil Free California.

Sandy will conduct a seminar on how to move your money out of financial instruments (stocks, bonds, funds) that invest in the fossil fuel industry, and thus fuel climate change, and into environmentally friendly and sustainable options. Years of research has shown clearly this can be done without sacrificing financial return; returns have actually been better for "green" investments.

The session will also cover banking and credit cards -- many banks invest in infrastructure projects such as the Keystone XL Pipeline, extraction of shale oil from the Canadian tar sands, and drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. The presentation will be relevant to people at various income levels and stages.

Whether you’re just starting to evaluate your banking and investment choices or have been wrestling with these issues for years, you can get information and support for moving your money out of polluting banks and investments and into the clean energy economy.
