“Recycle that bottle, recycle that can. Let’s clean up the garbage that covers the land…” sings New Mexico’s own Bayou Seco Band, but what happens to that bottle or that can? Find out just that and much more about our state’s waste stream from informed experts in this rare meeting of the minds. On Saturday,April 14th at 1pm, Matthew Whelan of the City’s Solid Waste Department, Juliana Ciano of New Mexico Recycling Coalition, John (Ski) Shaski of Knowaste and UNM Recycling, Matthew Peterson of the Open Space Division, Molly Blumhoefer CNM’s Sustainability Project Manager, Rick Sisneros of Bio Pappel International, Inc. will discuss such questions as:

• What do you do with the discarded items you collect? Where do they go?
• What are the major issues the public needs to consider? And our policy makers?
• What possible innovations could be made to improve New Mexico’s disposal practices?
• What makes you optimistic about the future?

Find out exactly what happens to your trash and how you can best clean up the land by listening and participating in the discussion. The State of Recycling Panel Discussion is part of an exciting array of programming to take place at the 9th Annual ABQ Recycled Art Fair – April 14th and 15th from 10am – 4pm at the Open Space Visitor Center.
