Backyard Farming Series: Vining Fruits Workshop
March 24, 2018 9:00 AM
Gutierrez-Hubbell House - 6029 Isleta Blvd SW
Since 2010, Bernalillo County Open Space and its partners have offered a free series of workshops that provides the public with practical experience and knowledge for transforming their backyards into a thriving urban oasis of food, medicine, and wildlife habitat. The guest speakers for this series are all experts in their field who present firsthand knowledge on topics such as irrigation, livestock, insects, gardening, seed saving, and much more. The workshops are held at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House History and Cultural Center.
This workshop will focus on Vining Fruits. Learn the whole spectrum of vining plants - from site selection to planting, growing, the importance of weed control, and pruning to get the best out of the vine. Ongoing vine management including shoot selection, leaf stripping and canopy management will also be discussed. Go out in the fresh air to learn the practical aspects with a demonstration and be set loose on the grape and blackberry vines in the heritage vineyard for some hands-on experience.
All workshops for the 2018 season are FREE and run from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House, located at 6029 Isleta Blvd SW (3 miles south of Rio Bravo).
